Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emission Reduction

EMP is committed to the 20% reduction of carbon emissions by 2030 and achieving Net Zero by 2060.

Accelerate the replacement of diesel-fueled barges with pipeline facilities to reduce diesel usage in gas/oil transportation. Starting at TB site in early 2024 and will be expanded to other sites.

Installing solar panels on the roof to support electricity generation at EMP BKB and new projects in the TB area to provide electricity for supporting facilities.

Establishing the use of electric vehicles for transportation within the scope of EMP operational activities.

Continuing existing EMP initiatives to reduce gas flaring on site.

Continuing the program of planting mangroves and forest trees as a substitute for emissions.

Reducing diesel consumption by optimizing the use of small capacity diesel generators at Gandini FSO.

Connecting electricity usage between EMP Bentu locations (SGP1 and SGP2) to achieve energy efficiency and electricity sharing.

Perform regular preventive and active maintenance on gas turbines, diesel generators and gas compressors to ensure fuel efficiency and optimal performance.

Switching to using a greater proportion of natural gas over diesel to take advantage of cleaner fuel sources in electricity production.

Reducing plastic waste among employees by distributing reusable water and food containers and shopping bags, to reduce the use of single-use plastic bottles and bags.

Exploring collaboration opportunities in reprocessing used lubricants to facilitate waste reuse.

EMP is committed to not experiencing any water waste incidents.

Isolation and reduction of extraction from oil wells with high water to oil ratio, effectively reducing wastewater production during the extraction process.

Setting and meeting stricter internal targets for effluent quality than those legally required, achieved through the implementation of coalescers and gas flotation units.

Installation of continuous wastewater monitoring facilities that provide hourly reports directly to the Ministry of Environment.

Implement a well integrity program to ensure wellhead inspections are performed according to industry standards to prevent spills.

Daily monitoring of effluent to monitor oil and fat content.

Monthly submission of effluent samples to an external laboratory approved by the Ministry of Environment and Forests to monitor the levels of Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Ammonia and Phenol in wastewater.
