Kangean PSC is a key upstream natural gas asset located offshore and
onshore east of Madura Island and north of Bali within the East Java
Basin, covering 3,470.58 km² under a PSC Cost Recovery framework.
Following EMP’s acquisition of JAPEX’s 25% participating interest, the
block is now fully owned and operated by EMP through its
subsidiaries, strengthening the Company’s control over long-term
development of strategic fields such as Rancak and West Kangean.
The asset plays a vital role in supplying natural gas for power
generation and industrial needs across East Java, with ongoing efforts
to advance development drilling, enhance exploration, and optimize
production performance to support sustainable output and maximize
domestic energy reliability.
As the operator of the Kangean PSC, the company is actively engaged
in exploration, development, and production activities to enhance
output and optimize gas recovery. The project includes multiple fields
that contribute to the region’s domestic energy needs. Infrastructure
improvements and technological advancements are continuously
implemented to increase efficiency and ensure the sustainability of
operations. The off-takers for the production include PT Kilang
Pertamina Internasional (KPI) for oil, while the gas off-takers include PT
Petrokimia Gresik, PT Pertagas Niaga, PT PLN (Persero), and PT Indogas
Kriya Dwiguna, ensuring a diverse and stable buyers.
Looking forward, the Kangean PSC is committed to expanding
production through drilling programs and enhanced reservoir
management. Investment in field development and production
optimization remains a priority, aligning with Indonesia’s national
energy strategy. The project continues to play a vital role in securing a
stable gas supply for the region while adhering to environmental and
